It kills me when Quentin says, “It’s a monster, I know, but it’s a monster with his face and eyes,” because – the point is well covered by “face,” everyone understands he’s saying that it’s hard to think about killing something that looks like Eliot. “And eyes” is so extraneous to the meaning of the sentence, and so revealingly intimate.

The monster looks like Eliot, and that’s upsetting.

The monster *looks at Quentin like Eliot did,* and that’s devastating.
